Who We AreWelcome to Oak Park Baptist!
|
Oak Park Baptist Church was started in 1954 as a mission of Ninth and O Baptist Church in Louisville, Kentucky. The church began in a member’s garage and met there for little over a year. As attendance grew the mission met in a vacant house for about a year.
In 1956 Walnut Street Baptist Church became the sponsor of the mission and purchased three acres of land on Allison Lane for $10,000. Construction on the church began in 1959 and on September 13, 1959 the new chapel was dedicated.
Over the years educational space was added on, as well as a fellowship area. In 1980 a new sanctuary was dedicated.
The future is bright for the body of Christ that meets at Oak Park Baptist Church. With a high commitment to the Word of God, we look to impact our community by advancing the kingdom of God in ways that are relevant to everyday people. We want to overcome people’s stereotypes and negative experiences concerning living for God in the context of a local church. The truth is that God has provided solutions to all of mankind’s problems but people do not consider the church as a place to find solutions to their situations. We are in the process of changing that mindset.
The family unit is under attack by our society like never before. It is the desire of this church to model to the community at large what family is all about from God’s prospective. God has created the family as the basic foundational element of society because everyone needs to belong to a family. Families today have drifted from God’s original plan and many have become dysfunctional as they seek to make sense of this world. The local church has the unique opportunity to model and invite those who struggle with family issues to see God’s plan for the family as it is played out in the local church. The church also has the opportunity to provide an atmosphere where healthy families can be strengthened and continue to grow. It is the desire of Oak Park Baptist Church to seize that opportunity and make the most of it for the glory of God! Come and join us on and let us share with you how to experience a journey of a lifetime.
